Are you ready for some....

Football. I don't know if you know this about our family but we are die hard football fans. It seems funny for me to write that seeing that I got a book as a wedding gift called "football for dummies" but I have grown to love the sport only out of surrender! And every August we get a little giddy about the pigskin!

Well this summer was a little different because John Hunter is playing football. He has actually done quite well! And is learning more each week. This week is the FINAL week and his team is playing in the SUPER BOWL! HE is SOOOOOOOO excited! He gets to run through a tunnel and when you ask him about it he says, "there are gonna be smoke, tunnel, and music!"

He is so excited and we are too. Well actually daddy is. Cause after the SuperBowl the dads/coaches are going to play a game! Lord help us!!!

We'll keep yall updated on the big game. The best part of the game is that these people are coming!

Photo Time

So for some time now I have been itching to get some pics of JH taken. There are SOOOOO many talented photographers that we know and could use, but when I started weighing price of photos to all the other "needs" in our life, I used BIG GIRL JUDGEMENT and decided to do it myself.

Last night I read all I could about taking photos, editing, clothing options, etc. And this morning I geared JH up for getting his photos taken. He was pretty good, and all I was hoping was for a few good shots. So here was today photoshoot! Way to go JH!

Welcome to the Neighborhood

Welcome to the Neighborhood! We had some new neighbors moved in this weekend so we wanted to welcome them to the neighborhood! So what better way to welcome someone than food. As of late John Hunter is just like his daddy and HE LOVES to be in the kitchen! So he is helping me make these buttermilk pies! Here's the recipe!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup margarine, softened
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 (9 inch) deep dish pie crust

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C.)
  2. In a large bowl, cream margarine and sugar. Beat in flour and salt. Blend in the eggs. Stir in the buttermilk and vanilla. Pour into pie shell.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes, then reduce temperature to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C) and bake 45 minutes, or until filling is set.

Eric and I have been really taking ahold of opportunities to be the church in our neighborhood. We have an AWESOME neighborhood, and we have great neighbors. We are trying to reach out it so many ways! Last night we invited some neighbors to go out to eat dinner, we had a blast and got on the subject of church. They asked if they could come with us today, and they did! How fun is that! There little girl is the sweetest thing and all smiles and she had a great time in nursery which was great!

Real Parents

So today I felt like we moved into the world of "real parents". John Hunter is in organized sports league which means practice and schedules. However today we played a HOUR of football in the rain. And for some reason, I did not seem to mind. We was so glad to play, He did excellent. He scored and ran for about 40 yards. When he got the run he looked back at Eric, pointed and said, "now thats what Im talking about". He is a HOOT!

Our team won and next week is the SUPER BOWL. That means running through the tunnel, trophy, etc. He is so excited. BUT after the game is the dad and coaches game. And ERIC is super excited! What a hoot!

Go Saints is all I can say (well until September with Brett Favre and and Vikings take on the Saints and we will be rooting the Vikings ons!)

A bad attitude

So John Hunter has been a little under the weather. His ears of course, but it can make life REALLY difficult. I started thinking about how trying it is when your child is sick. It's not the sickness that gets me, its the complaining, whining, attitude, and pure misery that accompany the sickness. I know once the meds kick in we'll be better, but this time it has been so hard and difficult on me!
However it got me thinking, there are times when I am grouchy, whiney, and have a bad attitude towards my heavenly Father. Maybe things aren't going the way I want, maybe i am living on my on will instead of His, just maybe I am not living in the Spirit. I know how frustrated I am with John Hunter, and yes I love him unconditionally, but even at his worst it is hard to give him my best. Praise the LORD this is not true of my Jesus, His best is all he has for me, even at my worst. This concept has really hit home with me over the past few days! Lord, help me be more like you!

I have so much to be thankful for

This weekend I went home to Lexington, and it was SOOOO amazing! Dad bought mom and I tickets to see Beth Moore in Rupp. It was so wonderful (thank you dad)! She was amazing! I brought home so many wonderful thoughts but one thing that really hit to the heart is that I have so much to be thankful for. She talked about keeping a gratitude journal and I have started to do the same thing. Daily I reason with why my life is so hard, so bad, and so on, but really I have been given SO much and to use to the GLORY of the Lord. So I am praying that with His help my attitude will reflect the desire of my heart!

Another fun thing I got to do while in Lexington is visit with my dear friend and her newest little addition. I am just smitten with Hattie Jayne. On the way to visit her, I did make a photo opt stop... Everyone needs a pic of their child at their alma Malta.... so here is ours!

Look at this little buddy... could anything be sweeter however we think he has a ruptured ear drum. Please pray for him... were taking him in the morning

Crackin' The Whip....

So with John Hunter being gone last week one of the things that Eric and I talked about and worked on was how much responsibility a 3 year old can take. I have always been a big cheerleader of children helping out around the family.

When we found out we were prego WITH JOHN HUNTER some wise friends introduced us to the concept of "our child is an addition to our family, not the CENTER of our family". Now don't get us wrong we love our child more than anything, but we are finding the importance of modeling a healthy relationship as a mom and dad, child of God, and loving our neighbor are WAY more important than making sure JH is the center of our world!

** PS I have updated the blog to state we are NOT prego! apparently when it feeds to face book it got to the line that says.... when we found out were were prego and then cut off! I had SEVERAL people message me congrats! Too funny... we are not prego, I PROMISE! But if the LORD sees fit for us to have another child we will crack the whip with that one as well!

All that to be said we have instituted some ways that are going make model what we believe in parenting. They are not profound, not new, but we are praying they work and the LORD will bless our labor as we try and raise a child up in a Christ centered home!

Here are some things we are working on....
1) Responsibility... John Hunter will be given a number of chores through out the week. We have ordered the Melissa and Doug Chore Chart seen here. We are asking him as a member of this house and the ripe old age of 3.5 to make his bed daily. Feed the dogs, remove all dishes from the table and place in the sink, as well as keeping his toys picked up and placed in the appropriate place WITHOUT being asked. We have explained to him that these toys cost money and were purchased and given to him. As nice as they are they are a privilege. Daily he can play with whatever toy he would like. But before bedtime he will be given a reminder that the day is ending and bed time is approaching. At that time he will be asked to look over the house and make sure all this toys are put away. If they are not... they will be placed on the mantle and not be able to be played with the next day!

2) Be Like Jesus... At this point in life John Hunter is obsessed with Bible Stories of Jesus. Some of my favorite moments of the day is when he comes up to me and says "mom, can you tell me a story about Jesus." NOTHING, and I mean NOTHING is more important than for me/ Eric to stop what we are doing and make the Bible come to life for that little boy. We are teaching him that manners, attitude, and joy are not things that are to be taken lightly. He is rewarded through words of affirmation. We have noticed that his manners are improving and his overall attitude is positive. Now this sounds amazing, and yes he has his moments. But Eric and I are both challenged because he is watching us like a hawk. He wants us to be like Jesus too, and will call us out when we are not!

3) Routine is key.... this phrase has been thrown out the window all summer. We have been enjoy a great summer and bedtimes and naps are always hit or miss. We have found that the more routine JH is in, the better he transitions. He doesn't always need to be in bed at 8, or always take a 2 hour nap, but the more we can prepare him for what the day holds the better his attitude and overall behavior is! This is much harder on mom and dad than JH but Eric and I are committed to making this work for him.

So today is the first day home. The house was clean, the laundry done, and the TV has been off with the exception of movie time! He is now napping and he knows what we are doing after nap. We are trying this out. We are praying that through the strength of the Spirit we can raise up a child who is well rounded, well mannered, and confident who he is in the LORD! Pray for us, and we will pray for you as you take heart in the WORD that says, "train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is older he will not turn from it"

He's Almost Home

My little man is almost home... I am giddy with excitement. Eric has been gone and is now home. In case you live under a rock, EA Sport Madden 11 came out today! Me being wife of the year went and picked up my husbands pre-ordered copy:)

Then finished the WHOLE house cleaning, baseboards, fans, carpets, etc. :) Some people spring clean! I end of summer cleaned! And i have to say it felt good!

More more importantly I did some GOOD back to school shopping for JH. I went and got a bunch of fabric and I have a friend who is gonna make him some pants:) I got some shirts to go with it. The best deal I got was a red polo shirt (and yes I will monogram it) for $1.98! What a deal! I also made a shirt for JH to wear on the first day of school... here is a sneak peak of his outfit!

Speaking for the first day of school... we don't start until after Labor Day, but I did make these adorable pen bouquets for JH to give his teachers. How cute did they turn out!

Well I am off to shower in peace before my boy gets home:) I'm giddy!

God of this City

Almost two years ago is when Chris Tomlin's God of this city came out. I remember sitting in southland singing it as they displayed local places that were my "home". At this point we had begun talk of moving to Indy and each time I heard that song visions of Lexington ran through my head. This was my home... these were my people, this is all I have known. I love it (and still do).

We moved to Indy and nothing was home for me. We lived in a rental house that was not home and my life was just not in a good place. We sang God of the City a lot at our church here (east 91st street) and even then visions of Lexington danced in my head. Indy has become a our home, have friends him, we have community, and we have a church that we LOVE, not because of the people but because of the peoples heart for the city and others.

Today was not different. Our church closed its doors and met in the middle of downtown Indy along with 2 other churches. As we were sitting there waiting for the service to start all i could think of was the song "God of this City".... God is not only in Lexington, He is everywhere....He is in Indy, He is in Lexington, he is not in the walls of the church... we are the church!

Thank you God for preparing the way as we moved here... and thanks for being the God of this City!

Just the two of us....

So we are half way through our week of just the two of us. Although I have gotten a LOT of stuff down around the house, it has been fun to hang out with just Eric.
DON'T GET ME WRONG.... WE ARE MISSING MAGOO!

However we have had several date nights, walks, conversations that are uninterrupted by "mommy or daddy". Today we did yardwork then headed to the pool, the a long afternoon nap. Eric just made me bacon wrapped shrimp for dinner and it was excellent, and we are about to go out with friends to watch the UFC fight. Tomorrow is worship in the city for church. we are closing the doors of the church and headed to downtown Indy... what an awesome concept. Eric and I are thrilled to be apart of it... then........................ and afternoon on the lake:)

What a week. However we are counting down to TUESDAY!

Today's agenda

This morning I got up and ran a ton of errands that needed to be done, and are sometimes difficult to do with a toddler in tow. I am also having a White Lilly Show this Saturday so I am working hard on that.

I started working on John Hunter's closet and am purging along with making a list of the things he "needs" before school starts.

I found myself in the middle of a pile of books and I would not have it any other way... here are the books. And I recommend all of them!

I am currently in the middle of Plan B, and hoping to finish it tonight... It is a must read... I picked it up from the local library and i recommend you doing the same. Momlogy is a book that I am reading and writing about for MOPS so it is good as well. And the Theophositcs is heavy but life changing.

Back to reading....

This sweet pea has left the building...

So today we packed up JH and sent him to MN for a week with his Nana and Big Daddy. To say this is HUGE is an understatement. This was a total last minute thing, but he was excited! We are excited for him and I know he will have a great time but we are missing him SOOOO bad right now.

Here is a list of things I have accomplished today:
1) Decorated Eric's MetLife office
2) Walked around Hobby Lobby
3) Dropped off some stuff at church
4) Went to the Library and picked up some good reads
5) Went to target
6) Cleaned and cleaned out my kitchen
7) Took a nap
8) Paid bills
9) Wrote snail mail letters to friends
10) Cleaned out and PURGED all the toys and put together a new toy box
11) Ate dinner with my hubby
12) Long hot bubbly bath
13) Curled up with a good book
14) Now it's 10 PM and we are headed to BW3's for $.10 wings :)

Now the only question is what will tomorrow hold....
