Truthful Tuesday... Part 2

Whoever said, “sticks and stones my break my bones but words will never hurt me”, was an absolute idiot. And I can say that because it is my blog! Words are a deadly weapon. They can intentionally be used to hurt people, and if I am honest… I can be really good at doing so. The saddest part is, I am really good at using words against my husband. Sometimes words can be in jest, and sometimes there intentional to provoke feelings of worthlessness, inept, or just plain meanness. I was on the phone with a girlfriend last week and telling something stupid that Eric had done, and honestly making fun of something SMALL. She hit the nail on the head when she said, “I can see you are going to store that in your think tank for the next fight”. We both laughed, but the saddest thing is, she is right. I would take something so small and simple and use it in an argument against my husband just to belittle him. In the NAME OF JESUS…. LORD Break this cycle! Ladies, that is wrong. That makes us become life the wife of Job…. Let’s take a look.

Read Job 2:1-10

Here we see Job being tempted with painful sores. Now I digress a little (because I can) but when my sweet, loving, kind husband has even the smallest sniffle he is on his death bed. I cannot even imagine if he were cursed with sores from his head to his toes. I have no idea what Job and his wife’s relationship, but I have a hard time imagine that he did not complain to her during this period of sickness. However, she is not asking him to get over it, or grow up. His wife, the women he loves, is asking him to curse his GOD. I love how The Message says it, “Still holding on to your precious integrity, are you?” It just sounds like she is being sassy and condescending (I should know… I have been there, have you?) And Job says something back to her that just puts Miss Sassafrass back in her place… He told her, "You're talking like an empty-headed fool. We take the good days from God—why not also the bad days?"

So when you are having a bad day, and it seems like I am having A LOT these days, do you reflect on taking the good with the bad? I know I don’t! It is easier for me to dwell on the bad, have a pity party, and even bring others (mostly my husband) down with. And the way I do it best is my words. Sure there are lots of ways to do it, cold shoulder, turn elsewhere, with hold the things that are near and dear to your husband, etc. But words… its easy, its quick, and it last.

Ladies, today is the day. And tomorrow. And the next day. And if your like me 435 days from now…. This is the day we declare we are NO LONGER belittling our husbands with our words. AND WITH THE HELP OF JESUS we can do it. For heavens sakes he knew it would be hard. Read James 3:3-5 “A bit in the mouth of a horse controls the whole horse. A small rudder on a huge ship in the hands of a skilled captain sets a course in the face of the strongest winds. A word out of your mouth may seem of no account, but it can accomplish nearly anything—or destroy it!”

Today is the day, let positive words flow from yourmouth. Even in the midst of anger, hurt, or sadness, DO NOT LET the evil one win. Will you take the good with the bad? Right now email, text, message your husband and give him some positive reinforcement. With no strings attached. A quick I love you, thanks for all you do. I appreciate the fact you put the lid down (well not in my house) but you get the point. *** For those of you with kiddos, the more encouraging/positive words your child hears you speak to your spouse the more they will pick up on it and mirror what you do/say***

- So think on these things, how in the past 48 hours have you been like Job’s wife, and how have you been like Job?

- Are you willing to take the good days with the bad? Really???

PRAYER: Father, words are a powerful tool that you have given us. We rejoice with your child’s first words, we hold our vows of marriage sacred, we use our words to bring you praise. But today Father we come before your throne, begging you to remove all negative talk from our lives. Make us women who build up other, who encourage us, and who when it seems there is not light at the end of the tunnel cry out for you to be our mouthpiece. Today Lord, of vocabulary is yours. Use it as you see if. Thank you for loving us in spite of our weakness, and in that weakness please make us stronger! In your Precious and Holy name, Amen!
